Five more candidates step up

Since the last article we ran about the upcoming City Council election, five more candidates have filed papers stating their intent to run. They are Rosie Hanlon, Gregory Glennon, Mark Ciommo, Mark Alford, and James Jenner. Many of you may recognize some of these folks as candidates from the last Council election. We will be [...]

Want to see the Living Flag?

We just posted photos from the recreation of the Living Flag on the steps of Brighton High School last Friday. Look here.

Man shocked self, caused power outage

Here’s that story about the guy who shocked himself while removing a knife from electric cable. This does sound a little fishy. Why was that knife there and why was he trying to remove it?

Some criminals just don’t have common sense

No neighborhood in Boston is immune from crime, including Allston-Brighton. However, after doing the crime log for the Tab for the last 6 months, I have noticed that A-B seems to have more than its fair share of dumb criminals (as opposed to violent or dangerous ones). Here is a case in point, from the [...]

I took a walk and this is what I found

It’s so nice out here today that I decided to take my camera out for a ride. This is what I found:

Colorful tulips in the 1700 block of Comm. Ave.

Lemonade and cupcakes (and a yard sale too)!! I guess I missed the yard sale, but I would definitely go just for the lemonade and cupcakes. [...]

Already 5 candidates for City Council

As of this morning, five people had filed papers to run for Jerry McDermott’s city council seat. Tim Schofield, Paul Creighton, Alex Selvig, Gregory Glennon, and Benjamin Bloomenthal. With five days left until the intent-to-file deadline, there are bound to be more candidates entering what is shaping up to be an interesting race. Read the [...]

A-B’s 200th birthday celebrated!

Did anyone see the Living Flag created by a couple hundred Boston schoolchildren dressed in red, white and blue this morning. That was amazing! It was also amazing to think of the historic significance of this event — the flag was to part of this year’s ongoing celebration of the A-B bicentennial and a recreation [...]

Go see “Wild Women”

This performance of Eastern European music by the women’s chorus “Divi Zheni” sounds like it’s going to be quite a show. A TAB photographer was at a rehearsal this week and was very enthusiastic about what he saw and heard. The show is coming up on Sunday. Read more here.

One big fish

Fishing is probably not the first pastime you think of when you think of city life. But John Hoffman has made it possible for city kids to enjoy just this sport after school. For this and many other endeavors, the Brighton Board of Trade recently honored this community activist. Read out story.

Jerry McDermott is stepping down

Our local Councilor just announced last night that he’s not seeking re-election in November. Read the story here.
This should make for a very interesting race in November, since the field is wide open and there are any number of interesting and qualified people in A-B who may decide to throw their hat in the ring.  [...]

Sex offender allegedly broke into Harvard dorm

And he is reportedly a Brighton man. Read this.

I can’t wait until Friday

No, that’s not because that’s when the weekend begins. I’m really excited about the idea of seeing 400 Brighton schoolchildren create a Living Flag to celebrate Brighton’s bicentennial, just like schoolchildren did 100 years ago to celebrate Brighton’s centennial. The flag will be recreated on the steps of Brighton High School and you’ll be able [...]

Did you notice the power outage yesterday?

I sure did. When I got home yesterday afternoon and saw that all my clocks were blinking, I knew something was up. Then I learned that a truck had hit and toppled two utility poles near Winship Street, causing the power to go out in parts of Brighton. Read more about it here.

St. Anthony’s for sale???

Did you know that St. Anthony’s school might be leased or even sold. It’s not definite but all signs are pointing in that direction. Read our story.

Boston shone

Looks like it was quite an eclectic crowd that participated in the city-wide Boston Shines effort — at least at Ringer Park. And yes, some university students came out too. See our story.

A farm in Allston?

Now that’s unexpected. But it looks like that’s what Harvard may have in mind. Read this.

Speaking of rats…

…and isn’t that what everyone’s talking about this week? Rats in Boston? Rats in Boston restaurants? Here in A-B, we know rats are a problem. In fact — and I shudder to think of this — I think I saw one run across the street a couple of evenings ago, as I was walking from [...]
