Media endorsements
The Herald went with Glennon in the city council district race, and with Connolly, Murphy and Flaherty but not Yoon and Arroyo in the at-large race (voters get to choose four at-large councilors).
The Globe endorsed Ciommo in the local race and Connolly in the at-large race. In the at-large race in made no other recommendations [...]
Tolman, Moran endorse Ciommo
City council candidate Mark Ciommo continues to rack up endorsements in the days preceding the Nov. 6 election, as state Sen. Steven Tolman and state Rep. Michael Moran both announced their support on Tuesday.
In statements, both politicians praised Ciommo’s roots and leadership history in Allston-Brighton.
“Mark knows how to fight for this neighborhood, because he has [...]
How ironic
Last night, I was downtown to cover the city council’s hearing on towing. After three hours of listening to councilors, residents and officials from the DPW and BTD, I walked back to the parking garage at 9 p.m. and, wouldn’t you know it, my car wouldn’t start. In the end, I needed, of all things, [...]
It’s official: Pike drive will cost us more
The Mass Turnpike board voted today to raise tolls for passenger cars at the Allston-Brighton and Weston interchanges by 25 cents to $1.25 starting in January.
Hanlon, Jenner endorse Ciommo
Former city council candidates Rosie Hanlon and James Jenner have endorsed their former opponent Mark Ciommo for Allston-Brighton city councilor. Alex Selvig, another former opponent, announced earlier this week he was endorsing Ciommo.
Ciommo now has the support of every candidate who ran in the Sept. 25 primary, except his current opponent Greg Glennon.

City Councilors talent show
There’s a talent show for city council candidates (incumbents *and* challengers) tomorrow night from 7-9:30p.m. at the Riverside Theatre in Hyde Park. All the at-large incumbents are participating and all but one of the challengers, but sadly our District 9 candidates, Mark Ciommo and Greg Glennon are not coming. That is so disappointing! I wanted [...]
This…uh…ought to stop the parties
But it’s probably not the way to go.
From this week’s police log:
A victim reported that on Oct. 21 at 2 a.m., a man threatened to bash him over the head with a hockey stick for holding loud parties on Hooker Street. The suspect threatened the victim again later in the day, saying he would come [...]
Debate tonight
Greg Glennon and Mark Ciommo, the candidates for Allston-Brighton city councilor, will meet in a debate tonight at the Edison Middle School, 60 Glenmont Road, Brighton.
Sponsored by the Brighton-Allston Improvement Association and the Allston Civic Association, the debate will be moderated by Michael Pahre of the Brighton Centered blog.
A meet and greet with the candidates [...]
Selvig for Ciommo
Former city council candidate Alex Selvig has been very public with his support for incumbent councilor at-large Felix Arroyo, but there is a new campaign sign in front of Selvig’s Lake Street home.
It seems Selvig is now backing Mark Ciommo in the District 9 race. We’re expecting a press release soon.
Update: Here’s a statement from [...]
Ooops
Spotted tonight at about 7:30 p.m. on Chestnut Hill Ave. in front of Roggie’s: a police car with some damage on its side (seen below). I’m not sure what happened, but there were about four to five police cars, an idle train nearby and an ambulance. The street was closed to traffic on one side.

Positive people day!
…is Oct. 29. So if you’re looking for an exuse to smile, hug someone or pay an unexpected compliment, this is the day for you. Actually, it’s not as cheesy as it sounds — it’s a Boston-wide effort to combat violence. Here’s more about Positive People Day.

Rat complaints are up in A-B!
Along with Beacon Hill and the Back Bay, A-B has seen a surge in the rodent problem. That is terrifying!
Cleveland Circle Blockbuster closed
That means no more good places to rent movies in the immediate area. Bummer. I don’t want to go to Brookline to rent movies which is what the sign on the window advised last time I checked it out. The question now is what’s going to go into that building now.
Eggs and healthcare
St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center is hosting a breakfast forum tomorrow, Oct. 19, to discuss health care reform and its effects on small businesses.
If you’re one of the many business owners dotting Brighton Center or Allston Village, head on over to St. E’s from 7:30-9 for some breakfast.
The forum will be held in the Seton Auditorium [...]
They did it
The sign pretty much says it all. The Presentation School Foundation bought the former Presentation School building from the Archdiocese of Boston on Friday.
Despite the cool autumn temperatures, there were still plenty of elated PSF members and smiling children on hand to celebrate the monumental achievement. The PSF still has to raise $3 million to [...]
