Mass Pike toll hike

The board of the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority approved a preliminary toll hike this morning that will go into affect Jan. 1.
The preliminary vote calls for an increase of 25 cents at the Allston and Weston toll booths, from $1 to $1.25, and a 50 cent increase at the Sumner and Ted Williams tunnels, from $3 to $3.50, turnpike officials said. Board members originally worried the increases would be far greater.
The vote is only preliminary, and a series of public hearings will be scheduled to discuss the increase before it returns to the board for a final vote.
