Group protests Harvard vacancies

protest.jpgA small group from the Allston-Brighton Neighborhood Assembly protested Harvard’s land use policy before the Harvard-Allston Task Force meeting Wednesday night. The protesters stood in front of the Harvard-owned former Charlesbank Cleaners on Western Avenue and held signs that said “We need homes, jobs schools and shops, not vacant buildings.”

“I hate to see vacant buildings, considering there are so few spaces for people to get together,” Kimberly Boutin said. “Spaces like this can be used better.”

There were four protesters holding signs and passing out fliers around 6 p.m.

“We expect that there are going to be a range of ideas and concerns from the neighborhood and we will continue to work with the Harvard-Allston Task Force on those concerns,” Harvard public information officer Lauren Marshall said.
