Where’s my cone?

Today’s Boston Globe had a story about Mayor Menino cracking down on the infamous practice of reserving an on-street parking space in South Boston with a cone or piece of furniture.
While I haven’t seen many lawn chairs reserving spots in A-B over the last week, we did have the following entry in this week’s police [...]

Got resolutions?

The new year means New Year’s Resolutions. I haven’t decided on any for next year, but in 2007 I resolved to:

Read more (check)
Get a job after college (check)
Learn to play the harmonica (umm… still working on that one)

Looks like I’ll have one to carry over. What are your resolutions for 2008?

Do elves ride bikes?

Quite possibly. Found near Comm. Ave. in Brighton this afternoon: evidence — an elf hat on a bicycle seat — that at least one elf might live in this neighborhood.

Fake cop

Sadly, impostors posing as police officers are not that uncommon in A-B. Similar incidents to the one below, reported in this week’s cop log, have happened before:
A 25-year-old Brighton resident reported that a man posing as a police officer robbed him of cash and electronics on Dec. 23. The man was inside his Leicester Street [...]

Give a Gift of Hope

This year the TAB is encouraging readers to support the MSPCA Angell-Memorial Hospital as part of our annual Gifts of Hope Campaign.
When you have a few minutes check out this slide show about MSPCA-Angell’s Critical Care Unit and this story.
Thanks. We hope you will consider donating to the MSPCA this year.

Shovel it out

Holy moly. Driving down Comm. Ave. today, I noticed there are still dozens of cars buried under a few feet of snow.
I know people don’t necessarily use their cars everyday-I lived in the city for four years without one- but can you at least shovel it out so the snow isn’t blocking the road? Please.

Albert ‘Dapper’ O’Neil dies

Long time Boston City Councilor Dapper O’Neil, left, has passed away in a West Roxbury nursing home. He was 87.

Market St. still partially closed

The northbound lane of Market Street from Brighton Center reopened yesterday morning, but the southbound lane between Arlington Street and Brighton Center (the side near the Rite Aid with a collapsed roof) is still closed, Boston police said.
The MBTA is still rerouting the 86 bus as well:
Bus 86 Sullivan Sq. Sta. - Reservoir (Cleveland Circle) [...]

A-B Heritage museum Website

The Brighton-Allston Heritage Museum launched a new Website/blog over at heritagemuseum.blogspot.com. It’s a pretty spiffy page with news and info about current and upcoming exhibits, so take a gander.

Rite Aid update

The area of Market Street near the Rite Aid Pharmacy has just reopened, according to Boston police. A portion of the road was closed after the roof of the pharmacy, located at 399 Market St., collapsed last night because of heavy snow.
One person was taken to the hospital with minor injuries after the roof collapsed [...]

Rite Aid roof collapse

Heavy snow and ice apparently caused the roof of the Rite Aid in Brighton to collapse. Only a handful of people were reportedly inside, including a patron and several employees. No serious injuries though the patron was apparently hit with some debris and taken to the hospital for treatment.

What the fluff

Comm Ave and Beacon Street/Cleveland Circle were abominations last night. It took me four hours, 20 minutes to get home to Brighton Center from Needham. Ahh!

Snow go

Here’s a view of my commute on the sidewalk at the reservoir in Cleveland Circle. Just a reminder, this is DCR-controlled land. All I can say is it’s going to be really bad when it freezes up.
