What do you think? How does it compare to the old sign that was up for so many decades?:

I saw it this morning and… well… i’m not impressed. The old sign had character and a certain amount of grittiness. Now it just looks like every other Dunkin Donuts sign.

Yeah, couldn’t they have given it an environmentally correct makeover a la the Citgo sign.

That cartoonish cup of coffee grew antenas. bleck.

    Yuck!

I’m very disappointed. The old sign had an outdated price for a pond of coffee that they would honor if you asked for it…

I was pissed when I heard that the old one was coming down, but this softens the blow. It’s very clean and modern looking. I don’t see why David thinks it looks like every other DD sign. I haven’t seen one that looks just like it.

I’m with CH^: they should’ve cleaned it up, made it more energy efficient and kept it classic like the Citgo sign.

Lame-O. The old sign was cool. And DD has plenty of $ to preserve it, but instead they took the easy way out. Of course …

    lame.

Yes, everything old and decrepit is great. Refurbing that sign will really raise the character of a crappy Watertown/Allston intersection. This isn’t news, go work in a soup kitchen if you want to make a difference you iced coffee drinking wankers.

The new sign isn’t the worst I could have imagined, but that doesn’t change the fact that the old, way-more-awesome sign is gone. Also, the “open 24 hours” statement is blatantly false…I have stopped by on many occasions only to find it closed.

I live around the corner from there and knew of the impending take-down of the old sign, but the new one is just hideous! They could have put something at least a little less downright ugly in place of the beautiful old florescent sign.

Well, it’s better than a sign with Rachel Ray’s face on it, or her lame attempt at a local accent. (Yeah, I’m good to go. Even if it isn’t delish!)

    super lame.

Awww. :-( I wish they would have at least made it retro looking or something. So disappointing.

The old classic Dunkin’ Donuts sign was SOOO MUCH BETTER! It had great character and a classic appeal which drew people to it. It lit up! We want the old sign back!

I liked the old sign MUCH better.

I love this new sign. It fits with the beautiful new WGBH building. This is an up and coming neighborhood. Just don’t let the greed hounds raise the rents and taxes.
