Allston-Brighton ice cream would be called…

If you could create the name of an ice cream that embodies all of Allston-Brighton, what would it be called?
Go ahead, try it out…

Gun in a bar

Three men were arrested after one of them allegedly flashed a firearm, which reportedly turned out to be loaded, in Boyne Pub on Western Ave early Friday morning. The three were charged in Brighton District Court with a variety of offenses. More on this soon.

Why glue a restaurant shut?

Why would anyone do this?
From this week’s police log:
Brighton Police responded on May 1 to 1029 Commonwealth Ave., Victoria’s Seafood Restaurant, because the owner discovered glue jammed in the keyhole, preventing access to the restaurant. Police also found glue in the keyhole next door at 1027 Commonwealth Ave.

Vote

As the sign says, Tuesday is election day. I’ll be at the polling places talking to voters and hitting up both candidates’ post-election parties (Mark Ciommo’s is at the Corrib, 396 Market St., while Greg Glennon’s is at Cafe Brazil, 421 Cambridge St.). Tune in Tuesday night for the results as we know them.
Right now, [...]

Tolman, Moran endorse Ciommo

City council candidate Mark Ciommo continues to rack up endorsements in the days preceding the Nov. 6 election, as state Sen. Steven Tolman and state Rep. Michael Moran both announced their support on Tuesday.
In statements, both politicians praised Ciommo’s roots and leadership history in Allston-Brighton.
“Mark knows how to fight for this neighborhood, because he has [...]

How ironic

Last night, I was downtown to cover the city council’s hearing on towing. After three hours of listening to councilors, residents and officials from the DPW and BTD, I walked back to the parking garage at 9 p.m. and, wouldn’t you know it, my car wouldn’t start. In the end, I needed, of all things, [...]

Hanlon, Jenner endorse Ciommo

Former city council candidates Rosie Hanlon and James Jenner have endorsed their former opponent Mark Ciommo for Allston-Brighton city councilor. Alex Selvig, another former opponent, announced earlier this week he was endorsing Ciommo.
Ciommo now has the support of every candidate who ran in the Sept. 25 primary, except his current opponent Greg Glennon.
Tim Schofield, [...]

City Councilors talent show

There’s a talent show for city council candidates (incumbents *and* challengers) tomorrow night from 7-9:30p.m. at the Riverside Theatre in Hyde Park. All the at-large incumbents are participating and all but one of the challengers, but sadly our District 9 candidates, Mark Ciommo and Greg Glennon are not coming. That is so disappointing! I wanted [...]

Selvig for Ciommo

Former city council candidate Alex Selvig has been very public with his support for incumbent councilor at-large Felix Arroyo, but there is a new campaign sign in front of Selvig’s Lake Street home.
It seems Selvig is now backing Mark Ciommo in the District 9 race. We’re expecting a press release soon.
Update: Here’s a statement from [...]

Debate mistake

An error in Friday’s TAB gave the wrong date for the Allston Board of Trade debate at the West End House.  The candidates for District 9 City Councilor will debate at the West End House on Allston Street on Oct. 15. There will be a meet and greet from 6-6:30 p.m. with the debate to [...]

Campaign freebies

At the Allston Brighton parade yesterday, a member of Rosie Hanlon’s campaign handed me a big white knot. Two seconds later, I was almost belted in the face with another one. What were these knots being tossed to the crowd? Well, I untied mine to find out.

It seems that Rosie Hanlon and Rosie the Riveter [...]

Breaking news - Jenner drops out of race

City Council candidate James Jenner dropped out of the race to replace Jerry McDermott on Monday, one week before the Sept. 25 primary election would narrow the six-person field down to two. Jenner, a lifelong Brighton resident, will now work on former opponent Rosie Hanlon’s campaign as a senior strategist.
“I’m making this decision because I [...]
