Remembering 9/11

It’s been six years since that fateful day in September 2001. Our world changed forever when terrorists hijacked four commercial airplanes and used them to kill innocent people and bring down buildings that were symbols of our country’s power. During the years immediately following the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, there were many special observances in towns across the nation and here on the South Shore. As time has passed, however, the remembrances and ceremonies have started to dwindle.

This is not the case in Abington, where Christie Coombs lives with her three children. On that horrific day, Christie lost her husband, Jeff, who was killed aboard Flight 11 when it struck one of the World Trade Center towers. Christie and her family and friends have done so much in the community over the last six years, not only to keep Jeff’s memory alive, but to help others through the Jeffrey Coombs Memorial Foundation.

Six years later and the Abington community is still paying its respects to Jeff and his family and observing the day as it should.

You can read Christie’s compelling story in the Abington Mariner, written by Mikaela Slaney, but we’d like to hear your memories of 9/11 as well. Where were you that day and what were you doing? How has 9/11 changed your life in the last six years?
