The following release was sent to the Amesbury News by Amesbury Police Officer Association member Thomas Hanshaw:

The Amesbury Police Officers’ Association (APOA) has begun conducting the annual fund drive. The APOA is a non-profit charitable organization, which supports numerous community programs in our City. The APOA pays the rent for the weekly Our Neighbor’s Table Meal program and sponsors holiday meals at Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Support is also given to the Jeanne Geiger Crisis Center, Youth Sport Programs, the Amesbury VFW, Council on Aging and many other community groups. The APOA also participates in the Relay For Life of Amesbury to benefit the American Cancer Society and Muscular Dystrophy Association “Lock-up”. Community events, such as the Bike Safety Day, National Night Out and Senior Christmas Concert are also made possible with support from the APOA.

The fundraiser is being conducted through the mail only, residents WILL NOT be contacted on the telephone. The members of the Association are conducting the drive, no outside company is involved, so 100% of donations received to directly to the charity.

For questions about the 2009 APOA Fund Drive, please contact Association President, Officer Craig Bailey at craigb@amesburyma.gov or 978-388-1217. Donations are greatly appreciated and help make our community a safer and better place.

The following was written by former Amesbury News editor David Rogers:
Hi folks, I had the opportunity to stop by Carriagetown earlier today and it sure brought back many happy memories. While I wasn’t there to report on a good news story (the alleged theft of money from Holy Family Parish), it was good to be back.

Didn’t run into anyone I knew from my three-plus years there (ending in 2005) although I did notice Chief Brickett’s command vehicle circling the Friend Street rotary. Jeez, I forgot how nutty that rotary and the Market Street rotary can be. Well, that’s it for now. Hope I get another chance to visit before too long.

No surprise that Lake Gardner was teeming with activity this afternoon as temperatures jumped into the 80s if not 90s. Knowing that the next few days will be more May-like (7os), dozens of Amesbury residents and nearby neighbors spent part of their day there.
