Dunn is done…

David Dunn
Lancaster Selectman David Dunn is one name that won’t be on the ballot in Lancaster this spring. The chairman of the board has announced he’s not running again after completing one term.

Dunn has certainly drawn both critics and fans in his three years. He’s not one to mince words and tells it how he sees it. That’s bound to draw some detractors. Certainly the ongoing Wal-Mart debate has brought Dunn further to the spotlight as the chairman has publicly proclaimed support for the building of a Wal-Mart Supercenter in town and spoke out against zoning proposals to limit large retail stores in town. Would his stance have cost him the election? We’ll never know. Certainly the majority of folks who turned up at special Town Meeting in January seemed to agree with him — they shot down the zoning measures that Dunn opposed.

How would you rate Dunn’s performance as a selectman? Would you have voted for him?

Dave Dunn appeared, at first, to be a reasonably motivated and able selectman. However, he engaged in material misrepresentations of fact; questionable interaction with representatives of big box development that historically had no regard for communities such as ours; and, use of his office to promote such development and restrict opposition to such development while appearing to remain impartial, in a way that could be construed to be a form of Machiavelianism. I would neither have voted for him, nor would I support his arrogant presumption to aspire to a higher or broader political position to continue this type of conduct.

To each their own…I, as do many residents of Lancaster, think Dave Dunn as Selectmen was the best thing to happen to this town in a long while. It is obvious that Dave wants what is best for this town, not what is best for ONE SIDE of town.
