Here comes the flood…

Center Bridge Road looks more
like white water rapids that a
roadway Monday afternoon. In
the hour and a half we were there,
it was obviously getting worse.
For most of us, it’s just a little too wet out. At worst, we might have to pump out our basements tonight. Several Lancaster residents are facing a frightening night tonight, however, as the Nashua River crests over its banks and threatens to destroy homes.
True, this happens every year, but several firefighters on the scene and a few homeowners who would talk to us say they haven’t seen it this bad in awhile.
We shot quite a bit of video footage today and should have it up online for you by tonight. It’s unbelievable how a ordinary road can suddenly become a river bed. A lot of folks are ignoring the “road closed” signs and driving right on through. If you’ve got a truck, chances are you’ll probably make it just fine, but as Lancaster Fire Chief John Fleck said today, don’t take chances. The chief is encouraging folks to find away around. Certainly now that it’s getting dark out, those seem like wise words.
