Goin’ old school

If this year’s Clinton election was a choice between well-trod names and newcomers, voters today clearly were kickin’ it old school. Right down the line from Dickhaut and O’Toole to Elworthy and Tena Zapantis, wife of a former selectman.

If the newcomers made a big splash in the months leading up to the election, it was clearly a relatively silent majority that stepped up to the plate (or more accurately, into the voting booth) today. Win or lose, though, what a great election season. To see so many people come out and run, let alone vote. It is Clinton at its best. Stahl and Mendoza supporters were visibly crushed by what many thought was shaping up like a positive outcome for their candidates. But staff photographer Holly Schmidt’s photo capturing a relieved Kevin Haley kissing his daughter Emily as the results came in was a touching moment that shows just what a relief victory can be.
