The election that never ends

This just in… According to the Clinton town clerk’s office, the provisional ballots that could have determined the tied race for Planning Board cannot be used. The clerk was waiting to confirm the validity of the ballots and has determined they do not represent registered voters.

Now what?
This means the race between Rebecca Stahl and Clifford Thompson remains a tie. With no clear winner, the race will most likely be decided by the newly-elected Board of Selectmen. We’re waiting on confirmation of this, but that sounds about right as races for which no one is running are typically appointed. Seems to make sense that a tie would be, too.

And there’s more
We are also waiting on confirmation that a recount will be called for the Board of Selectmen’s race. As you may recall, Mary Rose Dickhaut and Steven Mendoza were about 70-some votes apart. Dickhaut already began her duties last night at her first selectmen’s meeting since being back on the board. With a total number of voters just over 2,000 it seem highly unlikely a recount would yield more than a five to 10 vote difference (my opinion), but, hey, this is Clinton… and ANYTHING can happen.

Stay tuned!
