Talk about choices…

Who says local politics is dead? Certainly not in Clinton. For those of you following the local election cycle it’s still a month away for the closing date for folks to announce their candidacies for the Clinton Town Election and it seems candidates are already coming out of the woodwork.

We’ve got four candidates running for two selectmen seats and four candidates running for a single School Committee seat. Talk about feast or famine — last year School Committee member Bernice McGrail went unchallenged.

Check out this week’s story on the latest selectmen hopefuls. Also this one on School Committee candidate Christine Quirk. PTA member Tracie Perkins, along with Mariah Hunt-Legare and Tena Zapantis are also vying for that single seat on the School Committee. With so many candidates, our staff is having a difficult time keeping up. We’ll get you more on the rest soon, though.

Some other things to look for: The Times & Courier, The Item and the Wachusett Chamber of Commerce will once again host a candidates night this year in which candidates for the chief contested races will be invited to debate the issues. The Times & Courier will also be publishing a voters guide with a closer look at each of these individuals. Dates for both of these have yet to be determined. Candidates will receive a letter about these events as soon as we’ve nailed down the dates and times.

There’s still a month to go before the deadline to turn in nomination papers. Have you heard of anyone else thinking of running? Tell us about it. With so many choices there’s more reason than ever to pay close attention to this year’s races.
