Cool Tunnel

I’m working tonight on a package for this week’s paper on efforts to bring the Mass Central Rail Trail through Clinton. One of the most interesting features on that potential trail is our own train tunnel off Boylston Street that runs more than 700 feet under Wilson street and several houses before coming out the other side of The Acre.

Would someone actually bike through that? Well, if you need help visualizing it, check out this photo from Wikipedia. It’s a old railroad tunnel in Houyet, Belgium converted into a bike and walking path. Pretty cool. It helps you visualize what a reused Clinton tunnel might look like.

On a side note, I’ve seen the tunnel listed at 1,000 feet, but by my estimation on Google satellite maps it measures at about 700. Does anyone have more official information?
