Drink up, Clinton!

The results of a Today Show tap water taste test are in and Massachusett’s MWRA is near the top. Water taken from a Massachusetts Water Resource Authority tap in Boston came in second to Salt Lake City (whose tap water is apparently very non-salty) in the contest.

Professional wine tasters were called in for the contest which pitted tap water from across the country. What did they say about the MWRA’s water — which our taps are tapped into here in Clinton?

Boston’s water, one judge said, “has a purity — it’s straight down the middle.”

“It’s very crisp and appealing,” another judge said.

Is this really the same water we’re drinking? My water on Boylston Street always has a nice bouquet of chlorine — assuring me at least that all living organisms are dead. Does anyone else get a stomach ache after drinking it? I’m even switching my dogs to filtered water. Of course, the difference has to do with the filtration. Although Clinton draws the same water as Boston, we have our own filtration plant, which injects it with chlorine. Not the tastiest stuff on the earth. Perhaps the judges would like to try a sip of good ol’ Clinton? Hmm… better ready the Pepto.

I haven’t drunk Clinton tap water in over 15 years! I don’t care if the DPW waves magic wands over the tanks in the “Filtration Plant”. I was under the misbegotten impression the act of filtration REMOVED contaminants from the water — and not add added enough chlorine and other chemicals such that it gives you a headache when you let the tap run. or tastes like a mouthful of Clorox.

If I buy a bottle of corked wine at a restaurant, I can send it back. But I can’t send the crap that the town pumps to my house. Sure I can filter it, but that’s just one more thing I’ve got to worry about. So, I lug my water from BJs once a month. Some might say it’s be crap, and no better than the stuff running from my faucets…but I’ve never gotten sick and at least it TASTES and SMELLS pure!

And my dogs haven’t had a sip of tap water either! They get the bottled stuff too!

Maybe I can invite I can invite the wannabee oenologists and wine experts for a “tasting” at my house. My only question is “What goes entree with chlorine”?

Well, let’s be fair here… when I do the laundry my whites are coming out a whole lot whiter!

I am new to roaming your site, but the water article hit home. I recently purchased a condo in Fitchburg. Man, I wouldn’t drink that water. It was scaring me to take a shower in the stuff or soak in the “jetted” tub.

When I got my bill, I called the water company. Whose number to push on the menu??? So, I hit the one for the lab. A woman called back. After I told her my concerns, she was concerned about my worries. Concerned? I think she thought I was nuts. She wasn’t worried about the water. Excuse me.

She said they would come in June and test the water. Well, no one has called yet to set a time.

I’m lugging home water from the store every week, too.
