Emergency call

Our story on Richard Brown’s dismissal as emergency management director hadn’t even hit newsstands when we got the tip that someone had trashed the CEMA headquarters on High Street, damaging a van and spraypainting the walls.

Jeff Ring at ClintonMass.us beat us to the scoop, and says the vandalism appears to be retaliation from someone unhappy about the appointment of ex-Selectman Constantino Zapantis to the post.

We’re investigating and will have more on this as the day goes on.

Update (Wednesday, 5:40 p.m.): According to the police chief, the vandals scrawled threats against Zapantis, stole a radio and damaged two vehicles, a blue van and an old ambulance.  Zapantis says he’s taking the incident in stride, but may use it as a sign to move CEMA’s headquarters somewhere else.
