At long last, the wait is over. Sit-down Italian cooking is returning to the Clinton area. News that an Italian restaurant will locate to High Street is likely to get mouths watering. This town has been without an nearby Italian sit-down restaurant since Silvester’s went belly up just across the town line in Bolton — and even that place by many customers’ reports had declined under its last ownership.
But can it survive on High Street? That remains to be seen. Small time food shops have come and gone over the years and — as we all know — parking is a real bugger. Add to that a plan by the Council of Aging to replace the municipal lot located just behind the proposed restaurant with a new senior center. But, if done right, this restaurant could be a real anchor for the downtown.
Where do people go for Italian now? I usually find myself driving to Monty’s in Leominster. It certainly would be nice to know I could just stroll down the street if I wanted to.
