Behind the Times
We’re not gonna take it

Last night as I was leaving the Paper Store on High Street I caught a familiar tune in the air and paused for a moment to figure out what was that catchy country song the speakers were playing.
It was Johnny Paycheck’s immortal “Take This Job and Shove It,” right where you’d least expect it.
Now, I’m sure the corporate wizards over at Paper Store H.Q. in Acton are approving what’s being played in their stores … or at least they should be. And I’m not saying the folks at High Street seem disgruntled, because they don’t (they’ve always been pleasant to me, at least).
But I once worked at a bookstore. I enjoyed it for what it was, but no matter how nice your boss and coworkers are, it’s still retail. And I’m not sure Thursday night when all your friends are at home playing video games, surfing the Net, eating dinner, or connecting with the kids is the best time to be giving ideas to folks who wear aprons and nametags.
