From the inbox:

Democracy Should Not Be a Spectator Sport

This Friday morning at 10 a.m., Ed O’Reilly will debate Senator John Kerry for a pre-recorded taping to be shown this Sunday on WBZ TV-4 at 10 a.m.  Ed has called for multiple debates and forums where the public, would not only be invited, but would be allowed to participate.

“I do not believe democracy should be a spectator sport”, Ed stated today.  “John Kerry has set all of the terms relative to the upcoming debate and the public is not only being excluded from participating, but people are being prohited from even attending.  The terms set by Senator Kerry are an insult to the voters of Massachusetts and I call upon Senator Kerry to enter debates that are open to the public and where ordinary people can ask questions.”

“Democracy and the election process is meant to be inclusive and not exclusive.” Ed O’Reilly added.

NATICK COLLECTION GIVES TEENS A VOICE

IN THE 2008 PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN THIS WEEKEND

UR Votes Count Nationwide Campaign Events Capture the Pulse of America’s Future Voters

As the 2008 presidential election approaches, all eyes are on the candidates and how voters will respond.  Would the outcome be the same if teens under the age of 18 had the chance to voice their opinions?  This summer, General Growth Properties, Inc. (NYSE: GGP), owner/developer of shopping centers worldwide and premier entertainment venues for teens, engages America’s youth on issues that impact their future through a unique, interactive teen election, UR Votes Count.

Did you know over the past decade, debt levels for graduating seniors with student loans more than doubled from $9,250 to $19,200 – a 108 percent increase (58 percent after accounting for inflation*)? With these issues and many more affecting today’s teens, it’s important they educate themselves with the election process so in 2012 they are ready to vote.  Until then…they can make their voices heard through UR Votes Count.

What: Natick Collection will host UR Votes Count, a one-of-a-kind experience that educates and engages teens on timely, relevant issues facing the nation and the world.  It also allows teens to cast their vote for who they would elect as president of the United States.  This national forum addresses topics, such as the environment, healthcare, the Iraq war, social security, national security and education.  UR Votes Count takes place at 150 malls across America in 42 states over six weeks.  For a complete list of UR Votes Count dates and locations visit www.urvotescount.com.

Can’t attend the event?  UR Votes (still) Count! Starting August 16, teens unable to attend their local UR Votes Count event can text the last name of their choice for president of the U.S. to 77812 (Barr, McCain, Nader, Obama).  To confirm their vote participants must text back their year of birth and zip code (Standard text messaging rates apply).

Where: Natick Collection

1245 Worcester St.,Ste. 1218

Natick, MA 01760-1553

When: Saturday, August 30 and August 31, 2008

Noon – 6:00 pm

Why: Because UR Votes Count! This is every teen’s chance to voice their opinion in the 2008 election.  Educating teens on the issues and the candidates helps teens realize just how powerful their voices can be.

Prizes: Each voter who participates at a mall event receives an instant prize.   One lucky winner per mall will receive a $100 Discover gift card.  At the end of the six week tour, three ballots will be chosen to win the national prizes**:

· Grand Prize – $5,000 GGP mall shopping spree

· Entertainment Package – The ultimate back-to-school entertainment package, including a laptop computer, digital camera, flat screen TV, a sound system, a digital video camera and a $250 Discover gift card

· Fall Wardrobe Package – Includes items from the fall line of C7P, a Chip & Pepper Production, and a $1,000 GGP mall shopping spree

We’re hearing that Belmont High School did not make the Boston Magazine Top 50 high school list in the state despite previous honors in other magazines. Other high schools, such as Lowell and Burlington, reportedly made the list. Concord-Carlisle is first.

Since we don’t subscribe, we’ll have to wait until the mags hit newstands to get the skinny. It will be interesting to see what school officials have to say about this.
