Some political analysts said Barack Obama needed to do more than give a great acceptance speech at the Democratic Convention in Denver on Thursday; he needed to hit it out of the park. We think Obama did just that by laying out his plans for change, expressing his patriotism and countering Republican claims that he is not qualified for the job. What do you think?

Town officials have come under fire for taking a gamble with the paperwork required by the Federal Railroad Administration in order to keep Ipswich’s “quiet zone” status. They sent in a brief proposal instead of the required detailed plan. They believed the FRA would accept that for now. However, the FRA did not and now the train whistles are blowing four times at every stop in town. Do you think the train whistles sounding at railroad crossings are a nuisance? Do you think it’s worth spending between $300,000 and $1.2 million to reestablish quiet zone status?

Do you agree with the Ipswich Historical Commission’s decision to institute the demolition delay bylaw on the Market Street building that was badly damaged in a fire last year in July?  The Allens, who ran Ipswich News out of the property, own half the building. The Rosses own the other half and have sued the commission because they believe the building is not worth saving.

A beagle named Uno won the Westminster Dog Show recently. This is the first time the hound has won the show in, oh, many dog’s ages. Is there a special beagle in your life?
