A while back we talked about the Nicolas Cage film, “Knowing,” which takes place partially in Lexington.
It wasn’t filmed in town, but the production company contacted the Minuteman to look at our front-page design in order to recreate the newspaper as a prop in the movie.
Next week “Knowing” will be out on DVD. So for those of you who didn’t get a chance to see our cameo in theaters, on Tuesday you can watch it in your own home.

Judy Spivak of Framingham (left) and Charna Levine are volunteers for the Visiting Moms Program.
Lexington resident Charna Levine was among those who celebrated the 20th anniversary of the Jewish Family & Children’s Services’ nationally acclaimed Visiting Moms Program on June 11.
The program provides help for pregnant women and new mothers by sending a trained volunteer, like Levine, to their home for up to two hours a week until the baby’s first birthday. Levine and other volunteers offer nurturance, support and encouragement.
And so my friends, my end is near …

To paraphrase the personally beloved Frank Sinatra, I announce today that I will be ending my two-and-a-half month run as the Lexington Minuteman reporter.
I came into this position with the understanding that it would a temporary one, as I was filling in for reporter Meghan Kelly, who was on maternity leave - and will be returning to the position after I’m gone. As it turns out, it was slightly shorter than even I expected. Unfortunately, because of a tight economy, Community Newspaper Co. had to make some recent layoffs - and I learned about a month ago that I was one of them.
So now comes to obligatory “thank you” section. Thank you to Bryan Mahoney, a great editor, for having guiding me along in this process and strengthening me as a writer and person; thank you to my former editors in this company, both of whom were also great and from whom I learned a lot. For other reporters and company officials who have taught me how to do what needs to be done and helped me along the way - thank you. Most of all, thank you Lexington readers - thank you for making these last couple months such an enjoyable experience, even if I was often times too stressed out to truly appreciate your devotion to your news.
As for me, I don’t know what the future will bring. I’ve been applying for some positions, but only time - and my own efforts - will determine what happens.
For now, again, thank you to all. It’s been a good ride. Best of luck to everyone.
-Jason Crotty, your Lexington Minuteman reporter

The Chicago Tribune reports that white supremacist blogger and radio talk show host Hal Turner was arrested Wednesday after making threats against federal judges.
You may remember Turner from last year when he urged listeners of his talk show to use violence against Lexington Public Schools Superintendent Paul Ash “as a method of defending the health and safety of school children presently being endangered through his politically-correct indoctrination into deadly, disease-ridden sodomite lifestyles.”

Frank Benson and Kari Halvorsen represented The Rainforest Cafe at Stone Zoo’s Fifth Annual “A Wild Affair”
It was a “wild” Saturday night at the Zoo! Lexington resident Kari Halvorsen was among the 600+ people who attended the Fifth Annual “A Wild Affair” at Stone Zoo in Stoneham, Mass. She and Frank Benson of Burlington represented The Rainforest Café at the annual tasting event.
Twenty-six other restaurants were also featured, including Bugaboo Creek Steak House, Harrows Chicken Pies, Wilson Farms and Woodman’s of Essex.
There was live entertainment, a silent auction and time to visit with the animals, including the newest Zoo resident, Iggy - a white-cheeked gibbon.
The event raised more than $43,000, which will benefit the Zoo’s education and conservation programs.
