All seven of the Melrose Board of Aldermen’s committees are scheduled to meet tonight, Monday, April 27 at 7:30 p.m.
On the regular Monday night committees‘ agendas, the Finance Committee will again discuss proposed changes to fees for birth, death and marriage certificates and other forms handled by the City Clerk’s office. Two weeks ago, the Finance Committee recommended without discussion that the full board pass the increased fee changes; in February, the same proposed fee changes were met with opposition. City Clerk Mary Rita O’Shea has filed a revised proposal that will be discussed tonight, in which the birth, death and marriage certificate fees are each increased by $1 instead of $2 and Melrose residents and non-residents pay the same amount for birth certificates.
The Public Service Committee will take up three re-appointments to the Melrose Park Commission - Robert Christiansen, John McLaughlin and John Mercer. The Legal and Legislative Matters Committee will discuss utility easements for the Ward 2 drainage project and, if recommended by the Public Works Committee, a revision to the city ordinances regarding reconstruction or resurfacing streets.
On the regular Thursday night committees’ agendas, the Protection and License Committee will discuss a $5K state grant for the Melrose Police’s underage alcohol enforcement program, two orders to shift the fire alarm maintenance lineman from Inspectional Services to the Fire Department, and licenses renewed by the City Clerk for this year.
The Health, Education and Welfare Committee will discuss reappointments and a new appointment to the Veterans Services Advisory Board, an appointment to the Melrose Housing Authority and $1,200 for repairs to the Milano Senior Center. The Public Works Committee will discuss the aforementioned street reconstruction ordinance and a transfer of $67K to the city’s veteran’s benefits account and the DPW’s tree budget.
Lastly, the Appropriations Committee will discuss an appropriation of $30K from the Mt. Hood Reserve Fund to the Mt. Hood Professional Services budget and an appropriation of $440K from available free cash to the capital stabilization fund.
