Here are some important notes that people should keep in mind.
- The School Committee meeting that will have a budget hearing portion for the public is Tuesday, Feb. 26. School Committee meetings are typically the second and fourth Tuesday of each month.
- The Arlington Public School website will have Superintendent Nate Levenson’s budget presentation from Feb. 12 available soon. Not immediately, but soon.
- A concern about the new budget proposal is class size because it could increase as a result of cutting classrooms. The concern is not cutting class size.
- In the story available online, if anyone is confused by how the paraphrase was worded: five classrooms may be cut for the elementary schools. Typically 10-15 teachers leave every year. If that trend holds true this year, no teachers from the five classroom reduction would need to be laid off, because attrition would solve that problem. However, if every teacher came back the following year (as in the trend does not hold true), cuts may have to result for the five classrooms.
