So what if it’s Thursday? If you ask me, “Ashes to Ashes” by David Bowie is worth waiting two extra days for, so there.
ps - don’t ask me to explain this video. the 80s were just weird.

I apologize for the Keanu-inspired headline, but this is pretty sweet stuff I’ve got for you kiddies this afternoon.
As you no doubt know (and if you don’t know, get with the program already!) the second installment in the reboot of the Batman film franchise is due out this summer.
It’ll be called The Dark Knight, and it’ll be awesome in a way that’s difficult for us mortals to understand.
We’ve already got the creepy-ness of Heath Ledger playing the Joker (and quite possibly besting Jack Nicholson at it) but now THIS hits the Web. (warning: deeply cool, but also graphic images ahead)
Yes, that’s right, it’s Aaron Eckhart, who plays Harvey Dent, later to become the villain Two-Face. The reason for the name change is clear….but did anybody expect this to be this graphic? If this image is real - it was supposedly lifted from the set - it seems to point to a very dark movie indeed.
PS - My need to see this movie just went from “I’ll be there on opening night” to “I will knock a little kid down to get into the theater,” so be prepared if you see me at theater.
Where does he get those wonderful toys?

Quick, raise your hand if you recognize the reference in the headline.
If you got your hands up, it means you’re a geek. But that’s OK. Welcome. You’re among friends here. And oddly enough, I’ve finally got an answer to the question posed by Jack - AKA The Joker.
Where does he get the toys? Have you tried eBay?
if you got a few extra hundred Gs laying around, you too could be rolling in Batman style in one of five Batmobiles made for the first (and some still say the best) Batman flick.
Bidding starts at 250 grand, but be aware - that probably doesn’t include the cool voice-activated remote that makes the car do stuff, like “Come here.”
Tell me that wouldn’t come in handy when you’re trying to park at the mall before Christmas!
Last-minute gift idea…

As you might have noticed, I’ve been slacking lately. Posts here have been few and far between (or at least further between than I’d like.) But….I have an excuse, and it’s a good one this time.
In barely more than a month, I’ll no longer be a single man. I know ladies, but you’ll have to deal with it. Thing is….getting married turns out to be a ridiculous amount of work. Add a full time reporting job on top of it, and finding the time to shoot my mouth of has been tough.
With impending nuptials in mind, however, I’ve stumbled onto something I felt should be shared.
Check this out.
I know, I know, it’s just a keyboard, big whoop. But look closer, and see that this ain’t just any keyboard. Every key - all 113 of ‘em - is actually a tiny computer screen. Sounds dumb until you realize that means every key can actually be anything you want it to be.
Press shift and they all turn into capital letters. Open Photoshop and all your shortcuts are right there, as tiny graphics on your keyboard. Do a lot of video editing? Imaging using Final Cut without having to keep a poster-sized shortcut list on hand. I’m sure you get the idea by now.
The good news? This thing is real, not something out of Iron Man. And since you now know somebody who’s getting married….hint, hint….
The bad news? It goes for about $1,600. But I’m confident I’m worth it.
Is it Tuesday already?

Sure, I’ve been slacking off on blogging, but what have YOU gotten done this week? Huh? That’s what I thought.
It is time for another Tuesday music selection, though, so feast your ears on the Flaming Lips.
As a side note: This song also happens to be my ringtone on my phone.

OK, so it’s not Tuesday, so sue me.
I know Deathcab for Cutie has a rep as a whiny emo band that your brother suddenly developed a taste for in college, but there’s a reason they’re still around, and it’s because they’re damn good. Check it out and try to tell me I’m wrong.

This is a new feature here at Pop! ’cause if you’re anything like me, getting up Monday is tough, but you probably have enough work to keep you busy. Tuesday’s though, are the really evil day of the week. Getting up Tuesday might actually be harder than it is on Monday, and with all that work week in front of you, it’s enough to get through at least two drafts of a resignation letter before breakfast.
So……just cause I can, I’m declaring these days Music Tuesdays. I’m posting a video every week, something that’s super-cool, or relevant, or (maybe) something you might not know. Requests may be considered - particularly if there’s bribery involved.
Today’s selection happens to coincide with a dark day in music history.
On this date in 1994, the body of Kurt Cobain was found. He’d apparently shot himself three days earlier.
I can still remember both the day Nirvana exploded into my life, and the day I learned Kurt was dead. Staying up all night in college to get a copy of In Utero at midnight, then rushing back to the dorm to listen to it. It’s unfortunate we only got to see part of what Cobain was capable of.
This may not be their best song (or even Kurt’s favorite song) but if it don’t make you sit up and pay attention, check your pulse.
What, me worry?

OK, so when I was about 12, I had to go into the hospital to have surgery on a sinus problem related to the fact that I was apparently allergic to everything (including air, or so it seemed on some days.)
After spending the day in the hospital, and having surgery, my Dad came to visit, and brought what was then the greatest present ever - about 15 copies of MAD Magazine.
I don’t know about anybody else, but MAD was a big deal for me. That thing cracked me up. Even the stuff I didn’t get made me laugh. I was an avid reader for life afterward. If you ever wonder where smart-@ss bloggers come from, blame the usual gang of idiots at MAD.
And the best part (except, perhaps, for the tiny cartoons in the margin and Spy vs. Spy) was the fold-in at the end. So you can imagine how happy I was to find a collection of fold-ins online.
Check ‘em out, and enjoy some subversion on a Tuesday.

Look, I’ve never been one to buy into that whole “if you’re making money in the music business then you’re a sellout” thing. The way I see it, if you can convince somebody to pay you for what you’re doing, more power to ya.
But this is going a bit far, even for me.
Snoop Dogg, the man who made being a pot-smoking ex-gang member all warm and fuzzy, is headed to a TV near you. And this time it ain’t on a deliriously weird vareity show. This time, Snoop’s taking it to the soaps.
Don’t believe me? Read all about it here.
Snoop is going to appear on, and even remix the theme to One Life to Live.
I have fond memories of being kicked out of the house when I was a kid so my Mom could watch her “stories,” but apparently, that’s a memory that’s somehow culturally universal, cause Snoop’s Mom was a fan of the show too.

….a cliche, I know, but it’s true.
What’s got me thinking about it? Found this list today online of actors who were either offered or considered for roles that later made somebody else’s career take off.
Sure, it’s easy to look at this and wonder how dumb someone could be to turn down Raiders of the Lost Ark or something like that, but remember - actors get offered parts. A lot. Trying to decide what is and isn’t going to be a hit ain’t that easy.
For every Raiders, there’s still a 1941. Sounds like a good idea, but ultimately, just winds up being unwatchable.
My only two beefs with the list are these: even entertaining the notion of Borgnine as Don Vito. (I don’t know why, but it’s just plain….wrong.) And second…the notion that Terri Hatcher is anything approaching an A-list actress. I’ve seen more convincing acting in pre-school Christmas pageants.
