Who cares if the boss said listening to music at work is disruptive?
Here’s a nugget for you from Fountains of Wayne, letting you know, if you’ve ever felt like you’ll never find that right person for you out there, don’t sweat it, they’re probably looking for you too…
(Me? I’m cool, got my Mrs. Right waiting for me at home.)
Huh?

OK, really. I’ve seen some weird, artsy stuff out there in my days on the Web, but this might take the cake.
I (almost literally) stumbled onto this site, which features art of Chinese people who are painted - fully clothed, thank goodness - in a way that makes them appear invisible. Sounds weird, I know. Check the site out, it’s even weirder than I could describe it.
Upping the “What the ….?” quotient is that the site appears to be French. I can’t read French, unfortunately, so I couldn’t possibly tell you what in God’s name is going on with this art. Really, it’s just strange, strange, strange.
….And it’s also weirdly compelling. I don’t know how much effort went into making this stuff, but something tells me it was more than a “what the heck!” sorta idea.

OK, OK, so I’ve been slacking. But gimme a break, this being married stuff keeps you busy, you know?
Yes, I’m officially hitched now, and after enjoying a nice long trip to someplace very warm and sunny, I’m back from an extended break to dump more pop culture randomness in your day.
And lucky for you, cause I got good news today.
Check out this story about Warner Brothers spinning everybody’s favorite cartoon character, Marvin the Martian into a full-length film. Pretty cool, no?
If you forget who Marvin is, I happened to dig up his first appearance….enjoy:

…but not what you think.
Here’s a gallery I stumbled onto of art made by a guy named Diem Chau. I’ll admit, I know nothing about the dude, or what he does, but it seems he digs carving crayons into sculptures.
Is it me, or is this just weird?
I don’t mean weird in the “I smeared elephant crap on the canvas, then wrote the name of the beatles in white out and stapled hot dogs to the ceiling, and it’s art!” weird, I just mean there’s something oddly unsettling about these sculptures.
Although, I guess they say art is supposed to make you think of the everyday in new ways, and Chau is certainly pulling that off with this stuff.
To really be blown away, though, go all the way through the gallery to his miniature furniture art. Pretty neat stuff.

I’m not even going to beat around the bush here. Just check this link out.
Yes, some company is actually making working versions (well…not working versions, you can’t go back in time or anything, but you know what I mean) of the flux capacitor.
It’ll set you back a few bucks - try 250 of ‘em - but this is a level of cool few of us ever really reach. So splurge why don’t you?
I’m mounting this baby in my Subaru station wagon, then I can go back in time to when I didn’t drive a station wagon.

Well….intentional mispellings may be a bit overdoing it, but it’s that time of year again - not when high school kids graduate and start thinking about their future, but when music magazines hard up for stories start printing useless, goofy lists.
The victim this time is Rolling Stone, a mag I can usually either take or leave. Sometimes they seem to know what they’re talking about, and I think they’re OK, and might actually be culturally relevant to today’s kids again. Then sometimes they put the Zak Efron on their cover.
This time, they’ve compiled a list of the 100 Greatest Guitar Songs.
I gotta say….and keep in mind I’ve only been through about 15 percent of the list (it’s a page-through list, not a slide show or just a list, sorry)….they’re not doing too bad with this one.
Number one, sorry to spoil it for you, is Johnny B. Goode, by Chuck Berry. Not my generation, true, but as a former fan of oldies music, and someone who likes to think they’ve got a wide open pair of ears, I think they’re pretty right on here.
It might be tough to see it today, but Chuck Berry pretty much wrote the rock rule book (yup, there is one) so his influence is pretty wide. Wide enough to get Johnny B. Goode’s intro cribbed by the Beach Boys for Fun, Fun, Fun, at least.
Anyways, take a look at the rest of the list (in list form) and see if there’s any glaring omissions, or if you agree with RS.
All that’s left is the popcorn

OK, so my last post was in the cute-ness vein, now it’s time to geek-out.
I found this a while back, but haven’t had a chance to post it until now, but it’s worth the wait, if going green with envy of some super-rich guy is your sort of thing.
I’ve always wanted a home-theater in my house, (and someday, provided I can pull off the Brinks job,) I’ll have one, but until then, I’ll have to make do with these pretty ridiculous examples.
I know what you’re going to say, the Indy and Batcave ones are the best (they ARE pretty cool, I’ll grant you) but I gotta say, I think the best one is the Titanic model. I don’t even like the movie that much, but that room just looks freakin’ comfy. If you want to drop about 50 large on a room to watch movies in, it better be comfy, and that room looks comfy.
Granted, the touch screen panels in the Star Trek set ups are cool, but I’m still digging Titanic, even if it’s just a place to chill out.
Awwww….

Look, I’m a sucker for animals as much as the next guy, but these pictures aren’t even fair.
That’s all except the squirrel pictures. Squirrels freak me out for some reason…and chihuahuas….don’t even get me going. They remind me of a great-aunt’s yippy, biting dog that terrified me as a kid. But the others are cute.
Check out some cute animal pictures.

If I had to put money on it, I’d say I’ve seen Red Dawn at least 10 times, if not more. If you’ve got any sort of appreciation for seriously goofy 80s movies, it’s gotta be on your list.
And now the news comes that they’re going to re-make it.
I can’t stop ‘em from doing it, of course, but I can say that this is dumb, dumb, dumb. You’ll never capture the sheer idiocy of Russian paratroopers landing in the high school playground again, so don’t bother trying.
For starters, who are going to be the bad guys? The original was a clear product of the 80s, with evil Russians and Cubans galore. (And plenty of yelling by Harry Dean Stanton - Avenge me boys!)
I guess you could go with al Qaeda…but they aint’ the same. I don’t expect them to come rolling through town in tanks, if you know what I mean…
Besides, look at who’s in this thing…Swayze, Charlie Sheen (in his first role), Jennifer Grey, Lea Thompson….it’s like an 80s who’s who.
Also on the re-make block? Robocop. Again…bad idea. The original is not only funny as hell, but it’s a quality action flick.
I say leave well enough alone.

We got both for you today, kiddies.
Good news first - 24 is coming back (it’s about freakin’ time) and it’s going to kick it off with a special, two-hour movie that bridges the gap between last season and the start of the new one.
Bad news? We gotta wait ’til NOVEMBER for it.
I guess it could be worse, especially after last season. Anybody remember the ending? With Jack randomly staring out at the ocean? Can you say let down? When the season starts with an escape that involved biting a dude’s jugular out….you better come correct in the finale, and they didn’t deliver.
So this year better kick my a$$ all over the place.
What about you? Ready for 24 to come back? Excited about them having all this extra time (thank you writer’s strike) to develop plot lines?
keep looking »
