It seems more and more businesses and municipalities are offering Wi Fi capability to customers. Where do you like to take your laptops around town? Any suggestions on places that offer reliable Wi Fi service?

How are the sidewalks in your neighborhood holding up? Are there any huge cracks or holes that pose a danger for pedestrians?
Town Meeting approved Chapter 90 funding to replace some of the sidewalks and add handicap accessibility including part of Main Street over the next year . . . but there are probably many more sidewalks that need upgrades throughout the town.
Any observations?

The Saugus Charter Commission will interview their last set of government officials Thursday night and the members are ready to move on to the next phase of the job.
So far, have you heard any changes you’d like to see in the charter? Are there any concepts you absolutely dislike that have been introduced?

Four legislators representing Saugus - State Rep. Mark Falzone, State Rep. Kathi-Anne Reinstein, State Sen. Thomas McGee and State Sen. Anthony Galluccio - are running unopposed for the November town election.
Are you happy with the job the town’s delegation has done over the last two years? Any thoughts on why no candidates have emerged to challenge these elected officials?

Congratulations to the Boston Celtics and all the fans who are beaming with pride today for the home team after last night’s romp over LA.
There were so many great “sweet” moments - it’s hard to pick just one.
Among my favorites:
- Not having to worry about the Lakers ever pulling ahead
- The one-handed horizontal shot by KG
- Looking forward to the Rolling Rally tomorrow on a non-school day!
What was your favorite moment! Feel free to share.
Town budget talk

All town budgets will be before Town Meeting Monday night, but the library budget has certainly generated its fair share of discussion. In fact, commentary on our most recent library stories has been coming in fast and furious. Unfortunately, much of it has become personal, mean-spirited and filled with rumor and innuendo. (Remember, just because someone works or worked for the town does not necessarily make that person a “public figure.”)
At this point we have decided to turn off the comment function on the most recent stories pertaining to the library. and invite you to comment on it here on the blog.
Once you’ve registered and given us a legitimate e-mail address. We’re hoping that having to take that extra step will give the more vociferous commenters pause and encourage them to follow our so-called “pool rules,” which we’ll rehash here:
1. Keep it clean.
2. Stay on topic.
3. Be honest and accurate.
4. No personal attacks.
5. Don’t say anything here you wouldn’t say in front of your mother at the dinner table.
6. Use the ‘Report Abuse’ button when you spot a rule violation. (Don’t report comments just because you disagree.)
How we manage reader comments on our website is a work in progress, and we think the function can be a valuable tool. It can also be used for evil. We’ll keep trying to walk that find line between valuable and evil, and meanwhile, let’s keep the conversation going.

Hooters is asking the Board of Selectmen for liquor and entertainment licenses to open a new franchise on Route 1 South in Saugus where Famous Dave’s and Chevy’s were once located.

Posted on May 19, 2008 by kaobrien Does anyone have a suggestion for how Saugus can save money? Have you seen any waste in town government? It seems every department is down to barebones, but maybe there is someplace that could be trimmed? Maybe the easiest way to make ends meet would be to raise revenues through innovative methods. Got any ideas? Do you favor a meal tax? Higher user fees for senior citizens or school programs? Fin Com will start to go through the budget this week with a fine tooth comb and Town Meeting is expected to get the budget on June 2. Any suggestions? Posted on May 14, 2008 by mgaffney The Cemetery Commission is seeking to dedicate at least part of the 55-acre Curley property off Walnut Street and Water Street as land for a new cemetery. At the current burial rate Riverside Cemetery is expected to run out of available gravesites sometime in 2010, a fact that prompted the Cemetery Commission to look for a new location. The Joint Committee on Schools has also raised the possibility of putting up a combined high school/middle school at the Curley property. Officials are investigating whether the site could accommodate both a cemetery and school building. What do you believe is a more pressing concern - the dwindling number of available gravesites or funding a new school? How would you like to see the land used? Posted on May 9, 2008 by kaobrien How much does it cost you to fill up at the gas pump? My last charge at Hess was $53 and I don’t even drive a minivan. Luckily, I only have to fill up once every week and a half. I can’t imagine what some people must be paying. Does anyone spend more than $100 a week on gas? More than $200? Who has the cheapest gas in town? Angelo’s usually has one of the lowest prices in town, does anyone know what they’re charging today? See cheapest gas prices in town. Are you making fewer trips? Spending less on restaurants and entertainment? Trading in the old truck/van for a car that gets better gas mileage? There’s not much we can do about it, except complain!Tightening the town’s belt
